Is Cabo San Lucas worth visiting in 2026?

Yes, but the version you choose matters. The party-resort strip in Cabo San Lucas is genuinely fun but expensive and surface-level. San José del Cabo (30 minutes away) is a colonial town with an art district, better food, and none of the spring break energy. The Sea of Cortez — Jacques Cousteau called it the world's aquarium — is the actual reason to go: whale sharks, humpback whales, sea lions, and some of the best snorkeling in the Western Hemisphere.

What is the best time to visit Cabo San Lucas?

November to May is the classic dry season. December to March is whale watching season — humpback whales breed in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez and are visible from shore and by boat. Whale sharks are present year-round but peak October to March near La Paz (3 hours north). June to October is hurricane season — not a hard no, but storms can arrive fast. September and October have the warmest water for snorkeling but also the highest storm risk.

What is the difference between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo?

Cabo San Lucas is the tourist end: the marina, El Arco at Land's End, Medano Beach, nightlife, spring break energy. San José del Cabo is 30 km east via the Corridor highway: a colonial town with a central plaza, the 18th-century church, an art district (Thursday gallery walks October–June), mangroves, and better-value restaurants. Most visitors stay in Cabo San Lucas and day-trip to San José. The smarter version is the reverse.

How do you get to Cabo San Lucas from the US?

Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is 50 km from Cabo San Lucas (45 min by shuttle). Direct flights from most major US cities: Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Houston, Denver, Chicago, New York — typically 2–4 hours depending on origin. No connection needed from the western US. Uber works in Los Cabos — use it from the airport instead of the official taxi queues, which charge 600–900 MXN for the airport-to-Cabo route vs. 300–450 MXN via Uber.
